When was the Vanuatu Citizenship By Investment Program established?2020-02-23T09:13:02+00:00

While Vanuatu’s Citizenship By Investment Program has gone through a number of iterations since 2014, the current iteration was launched on 1 January 2017.

Where is Vanuatu located?2020-02-23T09:13:38+00:00

Vanuatu is an island archipelago situated in the South Pacific, north east of Australia. The island nation can be reached by air within 3 hours from Sydney, and in just over 2 hours from Brisbane.

Originally launched in 2017, the Vanuatu economic citizenship program is formally known as the Vanuatu Citizenship Development Program, or DSP for short. The program’s stated objectives include the creation of jobs for Vanuatu nationals, to stimulate the island nation’s economy, and to make a meaningful contribution to keeping their sovereign debt at manageable levels.

As it stands in February 2020, the current program iteration replaced the Vanuatu Economic Rehabilitation Program (VERP), and is technically a Citizenship By Donation program, rather than a Citizenship By Investment Program (CBI). The VERP program was established in 2014 as a mechanism for raising disaster recovery funding after the devastation of Cyclone Pam.

Previous iterations of the Vanuatu CIP include the Vanuatu Real Estate Option Program (2016), the Vanuatu Development Support Program (VDSP) and more recently the Vanuatu Contribution Program.

Why choose Vanuatu for second citizenship by investment?

FAST-TRACK CITIZENSHIP: Vanuatu boasts one of the fastest due diligence and processing time scales of any CIP in the world. By timing your application to sync with the workings of the Vanuatu citizenship adjudication panel, you could theoretically obtain your Vanuatu passport in 30 days, however it is advisable to work on 45 to 60 days depending on when (and where) you start your application process. The coronavirus outbreak has impacted on these timelines and application logistics somewhat during January and February 2020.

PASSPORT POWER: The Vanuatu passport affords the bearer the ability to travel to over 125 countries worldwide on a visa-free or visa-upon-arrival basis. The list of visa free destinations includes the Schengen Zone (EU), the UK, Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong and Russia, to name but few strategically valuable business destinations.  In addition, citizens of Vanuatu can apply for multiple entry Australian Visitor Visas 9 (sub-class 600) and USA Tourist Visas, among others.

UNRIVALLED AFFORDABILITY FOR FAMILIES: Apart from the incredibly competitive pricing, the Vanuatu passport program is one of the fastest and simplest options for gaining second citizenship offshore.

PEACE OF MIND: The program is offered, backed and legally enshrined by the Vanuatu government, offering foreign investors peace of mind about their investment. Moreover, you will not be required to transfer the full amount until you’ve received pre-approval from the Vanuatu government.

FRIENDLY TAX REGIME: Vanuatu charges no personal income tax, inheritance taxes, wealth taxes or gift taxes, and the VAT rate is 15%. New economic citizens of the country can look forward to an absence of tax exchanges treaties, as well as a highly level of banking and commercial privacy – Vanuatu is rightly know as the Bahamas of the Pacific from a banking perspective, but without tax treaties in place with most countries.

PARADISE SETTING: Situated in the South Pacific, Vanuatu comprises 83 tropical islands, covering approximately 12,000 square kilometers.

TOTAL CONFIDENTIALITY: Minimal financial disclosure is required to apply for a Vanuatu economic passport.

NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Unlike is the case with several residency and citizenship by investment programs in other countries, Vanuatu does not require its economic citizens to reside in-country for any number of days per year. In fact, you don’t even need to travel to Vanuatu to apply for citizenship; the entire process can typically be conducted remotely, although you may need to travel beyond your country of origin to meet with a Vanuatu commissioner of oaths, or a service provider, if the situation in your country of origin is unstable.

NO LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Unlike the the Portuguese Golden Visa Program, which requires proof of elementary Portuguese language proficiency and minimum stays to apply for Portuguese citizenship by naturalisation, the Vanuatu program has no language requirement, further adding to the program’s appeal and simplicity.

FAMILY ELIGIBILITY: Citizenship can be extended to your spouse, dependent parents over the age of 65, and even to dependent unmarried children under the age of 25. What’s more, citizenship is passed on to future generations, making this once-off contribution one of the best investments you can make on behalf of your children, their children and future generations.

YOUR PLAN B, SORTED: Vanuatu offers citizens a relaxed, sun drenched lifestyle in a beautiful tropical location. Vanuatu property is generally incredibly well priced, and as a second home location, it scores highly compared to destinations such as Antigua and Barbuda, St Lucia as well as St Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean.

As an added bonus, the Vanuatu CIP accepts cryptocurrency as a valid payment mechanism, making it the go-to destination for a new generation of crypto millionaires seeking to optimise their tax and financial structures in a stable, reliable offshore centre.
